Once again it has been a while since I posted an update to my blog. I now have a great idea to use this as a place to work on my notes and edits from chats on zoom. Instead of just leaving them recorded on my harddrive I can post them here where even though no one else will be reading them, I will none the less feel the pressure of working with them as if they were. This is also an editable format so things that might appear in need of fixing up, can be. So to initiate something this evening I will discuss what I am thinking about this evening. Reading this: Newsletter Dec 8, 2021 Nobel winner hits out at UK, France over channel migrants London has previously mooted exploring ways to turn around migrants' boats in the Channel. I have learned about Abdulrazak Gurnah. So our of interest I have watched several videos of him being interviewed and lecturing at Kent University. I posted several links on my Facebook page to remember these (and share with anyone else who is interested.) The lecture he made on the Fra Miro map (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92YgRBFUevM ) which is my favorite ancient map, has far more information on the map that wasn't included in the articles I have read so far on it. I have printed off my own copy, framed, which I used to have on my office wall and would even take it to class when discussing it. He has done some fascinating research into the history of the map. The next video I watched was a lecture by a colleague on him followed by an interview with him about his life, which is also fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7gg2WLg3sE And so on.
